We now have a LIVE STREAM of the 300 Almost Naked People project up at justin.tv! http://www.justin.tv/studiodphoto
Heading out to shoot a wedding all day today and it occurred to me I probably wont have much time to promote tomorrow morning at this point. So I’m throwing this post together with some last minute info, some reminders and a last call for help. It’s NOT a question of whether we have 300 people or not…there’s NOT a limit on how many people can come down and be part of this. If you’ve been on the fence about attending this event, it’s time to climb down and go for it!
Reminders:
Other Thoughts:
I want to make as much internet/social media NOISE as possible on Sunday morning with this. At various points during the shoot we’ll be reminding/asking people to update Facebook, Twitter, etc. statuses with what’s going on. At times we’ll need the gear stowed out of sight to get the shots we need, but there will be plenty of time for letting your friends and family know just how rad you are! Make ‘em look!
Be respectful of the other people at the event. If you want to take a quick group shot of your silly friends to remind yourselves of how interesting you keep life, please do so. But know that others might NOT want to be in YOUR Facebook images…so keep it discrete when necessary. For anyone willing to share their images from the event we’d all love to see what it looks like from your perspective as well. You can either post them here, or here…or email them to info@studio-d-photo.com. I’ll probably be whipping together a gallery of what everyone sends in…it’s one more chance to get in the ring and be part of something.
T-SHIRTS!
Yes, we’ll have them at the event if you’d like to purchase one. These event shirts are like the one I’m sporting in ‘Behind The Briefs’, the promo video from the previous post; Studio D on the front, www.300AlmostNakedPeople.com on the back. There’s an INCREDIBLY limited number ON HAND Sunday morning for $15 each – These are ALL standard/unisex cut style T’s. BUT, if you’d like us to order one and send it off to you, no problem. We’ll have an order form that you can fill out with your name, address and what size and style you’d prefer – while we’ll only have standard cut at the shoot, we can order standard OR lady cut to send out to you. Shirts ordered for mailing out will be $20, the additional $5 to cover s/h…we’ll be accepting CASH or Credit Card (for shirts only – event admission is cash only).
So that’s it…one more BIG GIANT group hug thank you to anyone that comes down and makes this event BIGGER! Please repost this, or the link to the promo video, as often as possible. The more people we get down there, the cooler this thing will be.
…quickly…there’s a few people needing rides from various parts of NEPA. If you’re in the position to offer a ride to and fro, post it on the studio Facebook wall so people can get connected…thanks!
ROCK ON EVERYONE and we’ll see you TOMORROW MORNING!
We’re down to about 60 hours til GO time. The lighting tests have been done. The promo clips are posted and we’re hoping everyone is sharing the link and the videos with anyone and everyone they can. It’s been a lot of fun and a HUGE learning experience getting this far with the project. I truly can’t thank everyone enough…you’re helping make something a reality for me that I literally CAN’T do on my own.
Thank you Annie B. for rockin another promo clip for us. Your involvement has been key in helping get the word out. I’m sure this wont be the last time we collaborate on something creative.
A huge thank you to General Fuzz for providing the audio bliss of ‘Acclimate’ for this promo vid. If you’ve ever stopped by our studio website at www.studio-d-photo.com you’ve had the chance to enjoy this track. It is THE song I prefer to review images to. It’s harmonic perfection to my ears! Please visit www.generalfuzz.com and download all of his music FOR FREE! And remember to drop The General a comment on his page letting him know what you think of his amazing melodies.
So that’s about it…I’m going to take the next two days and relax. Got a model shoot in the morning and a wedding on Saturday. Come Sunday morning I should be as mellow as a nuclear bomb and ready to go off HUGE!
And finally…thank you to everyone that comes down on Sunday morning. It really doesn’t matter to me how many people do show in the end…we’re shooting regardless, be it 10 people or 500. The number isn’t the point…it was always just a way to make people pay attention. The point is DOING IT!
Rock on!
Wanted to take a second and post a couple of snaps from some test shots with the new lighting rigs. Dave and Dylan rocked out a simple and inexpensive solution to getting the lights safely up in the air. This is a pretty good example of a small piece of advice my dad shot at me years ago; “you don’t have to KNOW the answers if you know how to FIND the answers”. I had no idea how we would get the lights where I wanted them. Called in Dylan and Dave to have a look, and 10 days a few cases of beer later, problem solved! Thanks again guys!
David, Renee and Connie were on hand to push, drag and lift whatever was needed as well…thank you all! And you can see Annie B. there shooting some footage for the 2nd promo video we’ll have up later this week. This video has proven to be more challenging than I had first considered, but it’s finally coming together and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished piece – this Thursday is the plan for posting that.
…and finally a couple of quick reminder bullet points regarding the shoot itself:
That’s about it for tonight. Thank you for taking the time to read this and BIG shout out to everyone that has RSVP’d on the Facebook invite. While I realize this number is probably not indicative of the end number that will show, it does help promote the event to other people. And on that note – if you think this idea might just be goofy enough to be worth supporting, I’d ask that you do post a link to the blog anywhere and everywhere over the next week. Regardless if you’ll be there or not, helping get the word out would rock…thanks!
Live life to the fullest!
New – Part 2
What To Bring
White Underwear & Sunglasses – For reasons photographic I’m asking everyone to wear white underwear for this shoot, a small investment if you don’t already have them. The contrast with the dark interior of the Berwick Theater is what we’re going for here. That, and the consistency of a sea of the same thing. BUT SHOW UP DRESSED! The first few shots we do will require that everyone be dressed. From there we’ll move on to the underwear look. The sunglasses are just a small and easily obtainable accessory that go along way in any image. Also have your $5 with you…and seriously, if it at all possible, try to keep it exact. If we have anywhere near the turnout we’re hoping for, anything that helps keep the day moving will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
…and don’t forget your signed release…
The Release
Please download, read, sign and bring with you the attached release on the day of the event. You will not be permitted to take part in the shoot without it. We’ll also have copies available the day of, but having this done ahead of time should speed things up a bit.
What To Know
It occurred to me a few weeks ago that this is a social media experiment as much as anything. Aside from the blog, Facebook and Twitter, and perhaps a little word of mouth, we haven’t done anything else to let people know about it. Because of that, I thought it would be cool to take it that much further. Rather than ask you to keep your cell phones off and put away during the shoot, which of course will be needed at various times depending on the image we’re shooting, I’d encourage you to make sure you were telling everyone about it DURING THE SHOOT. Update your Facebook and Twitter status’s – txt your friends and post images of what’s going on.
We’re aiming to keep this tasteful and positive, so I’d ask everyone to be respectful of other people at the shoot. But I also expect everyone to understand exactly what we’re doing here. This is about getting a lot of people together in the same spot for a picture (or 30) in their underwear. Try not to be too surprised about that part on the day of the shoot.
Where To Go
The Berwick Theater is located at 110 E. Front St., Berwick, PA 18603. The attached map might be helpful, but it’s pretty easy to find.
What To Expect
I’m not delusional enough to think shooting is as much for everyone as it is for me, so we’re bringing in some help on the entertainment side. While the team is busy shooting, taping and whatnoting Chris Romig will be MC-ing and entertaining with music and jokes. Chris is also an integral part of a majority of the images we’ll be shooting. He’s basically playing the part of the unlucky person forced into the spotlight, having to picture the crowd in their underwear. More importantly, as the dude with the mic, he’ll also be helping set up shots and directing the mass of everyone that comes to help make this idea a reality. He’s a funny dude and I’m sure you’ll appreciate the audio and comic relief Chris provides.
That’s about it for now…as always, more info soon! Thanks for reading and we hope to see everyone there.
Hey everyone, things are moving along and we’re getting closer to June 13th all the time. Today we had a walk through with Dylan and Dave, the guys who are building the strobe stands we’ll need to get the desired lighting for the shoot. If anyone reads my main blog over at www.eddiedonlin.com you might recognize Dylan from either BriggsFest (his family runs that) or from the Highland Games. He’s easily one of the smartest people I’ve ever met…and still the only person to almost blow me up…twice!
The images here should give people a better feel for what we’re trying to do. The Berwick Theater seats about 550 and is in every sense of the word, old-school. While not a Berwick native myself, it didn’t take long to realize the importance of this place to the town. The theater is part of almost every Berwick natives growing up. $4 movies and real popcorn and junkfood…it’s the way movies should be enjoyed.
And a thank you goes out to Renee for being our main contact with the theater. She’ll also be shooting candid’s for the actual event…get to know her, smile and give her something good to work with
That’s about all I have in me tonight. Lots more info coming later this weekend (Sunday – at some point). If you’re thinking about being part of this, or if you just think this idea might be crazy enough to get behind, please start spreading the word. We have a lot of work on the back end to make sure this happens…but EVERYONE can help on the front end of getting people to the event. Talk about it and share the blog address with anyone you think might be interested. I’m excited to see how far we can push this thing.
The post I’m hoping to get up Sunday will have info on what to expect on the day, what we’re asking everyone to wear/bring and a release document that you’ll need to sign and bring with you on the day of the shoot.
Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this – and an extra thank you to those that help spread the word (notice the Twitter and Facebook share buttons conveniently placed at the top of this entry).
Oh yeah…we’re doing T-Shirts for the 300People too! :D
Rock on!
We did it! It’s not big and it probably wont win an Oscar, but we had fun making it and learned a lot in the process. I really appreciate everyone that took part in and made this possible. In the next 2-3 weeks we’ll be moving forward with a longer (approx. 2 min) promo piece for the shoot. If you’re interested in being part of this in any way, drop me a line in the comments here.
I’ll also be posting more info regarding the shoot itself in the coming weeks. I’ll have an information document people can download and sign to have ready at the shoot, as well as what to expect the morning of and how I hope it will go. I honestly have no idea, but I gotta give it a shot. Worst case scenario, we have a mountain of fun…best case, we do that same and get some really amazing and creative images in the process – either way, it’s win win!
Start getting excited!
Just a quick post. Got an email on Friday from a remarkable person. One of those ‘put a smile on your face’ moments. Thanks Nickie for sharing this! :D
“I spoke in front of the Luzerne County Commissioners this morning about the homeless, and although I am passionate about the cause, I had a minor case of the butterflies. As I stood at the podium trying to collect myself, my mind flashed to your impending photo shoot of an audience in underwear. The mere thought of the Commissioners decked out only in their skivvies made me smile and I loosened up! The speech went very well and I even received a round of applause. Thank you for easing my nerves!
Hugs,
Nickie”
Wasn’t that cool?! :D Rock On Nickie on making a difference!
More info on the project is in the oven…as soon as more details are fully baked, we’ll be posting it here!
So, before you read much else, this might get a little long-winded…go get a drink.
I was going to hold off on this post for a bit, partly because there’s a few things left to hammer out, and partly because I was thinking of making this announcement through a video, rather than text. But the response to the teaser post was so awesome on Facebook and Twitter I figured I should explain myself a bit more so that if people were interested in helping, at least they’d have the right info…
So here goes.
{Back Story}
This past December a friend of mine, we’ll call her Courtney since that’s what her rapsheet says, was thinking out loud about the idea of being in front of a large crowd…public performance/speech stuff. And how very often the advice other people give to someone headed in to the spotlight is to imagine everyone in the crowd in their underwear. ”Wouldn’t that make a funny picture?”, she pondered.
Yes, that most definitely would be one hilarious image Courtney…we should make it happen!
{Action}
If you read my personal/studio blog (www.eddiedonlin.com/blog), you’ll know 2009 was an interesting year in many ways for me. Through it all one thing stood out above all others; just thinking about doing things wasn’t enough…I actually had to start doing them. Dreams are important for sure…it’s where most great ideas start. But it’s WAY MORE FUN to make of go of following your dreams. Even if you fail hard, the adventure along the way and the things you’ll learn while pursuing the idea often end up being an equal reward.
So here we go…let’s do this.
We’re going to fill a theater with people in their underwear and make a couple of hilarious images. We’re going to tape it and make a video for YouTube, cause if the stills are hilarious, the video should be through the roof! I’d also like to stream it live on the net as well…cause why not?…pretty sure we can do it for free!
{Details}
We’re NOT breaking this down nude style people! Arrive clothed, stay clothed until it’s go time and wear underwear appropriate for a semi-public offering…it’s 300AlmostNakedPeople, not 300ReasonsForSomeoneToGetCrankyAboutACoolIdea. I want to make Courtney’s funny little missive a reality, and I want to do it BIG!
……………………………..
I have so much more to write…but I know you’re getting drowsy reading this (that drink probably should have been a coffee and not a Cabernet!) We’ll save some of this for a future post, but I have to close with a thought to the future.
{Future Plans}
What If:
LOTS MORE TO COME…but I had to end this cause dinner’s almost ready…thanks for reading!
It’s really funny how some ideas just sort of work themselves out…
